In Vitro Brasil

The commercial application of IVF in sheep and goats was initiated by In Vitro Brasil in 2006, with success and proven results.

2006 - Seeking technology at research centers in Australia and Canada.

2007 – Start of a commercial technique which currently produces more than 100 pregnancies per month. This is the only laboratory to offer this service in Brazil

2008 – Export of Embryos from the Santa Inez breed to Colombia.

Unlike the techniques in cattle, obtaining oocytes from sheep or goats is done surgically, giving preference to less invasive techniques. The oocytes are matured and fertilized in vitro and embryos with an average production of 75% are transferred to the recipient.

The average pregnancy rate is about 45%, and in two years has already produced more than 1,000 pregnancies.

In Vitro Brasil is a pioneer in Brazil and the only laboratory to produce and market in vitro embryos of sheep and goats.

This is one more company innovation and has already been within the reach of producers of sheep and goats since 2007.

The technique allows for faster multiplication of animals with good genetic quality and outperforms the efficiency of methods of conventional embryo transfer, and this can be done every 15 days with the same donor.

The first studies dedicated to the quest for new knowledge about the technique of in vitro fertilization of sheep oocytes began in 2006, with university partnerships, such as the FMVZ/USP, the UNIFEOB and the autonomous veterinarian doctors working with sheep and goats.

Months later the first born lambs were produced starting from embryos produced by in vitro.

Consequently, in May of 2007, the in vitro production of sheep and goat embryos turned into a commercial activity offered by In Vitro Brasil.

Almost two years later, the company reported the birth of more than 500 lambs originating from IVF in Brazil. The production rates demonstrated the efficiency of the technique. An average of 14.3 oocytes per donor was recovered, and 64% of them had satisfactory morphological conditions and were classified as viable

On average, 7.3 embryos are produced per sheep donor and, after transferring them into recipients duly synchronized, 45% of them proved positive for gestation at 40 days. For more information click here and get in touch with us .
